The first shipment of Miniature Horses to New Zealand came from Canada in 1978. From that shipment of 16 animals, Dell Terra Bonnie and Dell Terra Clyde were selected out as being the best filly and colt. These became the foundation stock of the Willowbank Stud, and have had a huge impact nationally.
Proportion, soundness and size have been the Stud's goals, and today some dramatic little horses are regularly produced, of top international quality.

The Willowbank Donkey Stud was established in 1976, with the importation of approximately 40 donkeys from Australia. The smallest of these were selected and a tiny jack from imported English parents was purchased, followed by a second of skewbald colouring.
The last few years have seen the introduction of imported Miniature jacks over the Stud's jennies, and there is a strong future seen for these little brayers.
